We are five people in three rooms with the door closed, building things we wish existed and then giving them quiet homes elsewhere on this domain. Six rules of the workshop.

We do not name a thing until the thing is finished.

Naming is a commitment to the public. We make those commitments on the day a tool is good enough that we would put our own name beside it. Not before.

Specificity is a vow. Generality is a leak.

Every shortcut taken in the description of a thing is a shortcut taken in the thing itself. If we cannot describe what a tool is, in fewer than twenty words, the tool is not yet a tool.

The first instrument was a stone. Everything since is the stone, sharper.

We build software the way a knife is built — by removing material from a blank until what remains has only one possible use. The user, like a hand, will know what to do with it.

A thing is finished when removing one piece breaks the whole.

This is also the test of whether a thing was honestly built. If a feature can be excised without consequence, it was decoration. Decoration is for cathedrals; we do not run a cathedral.

We work in public, quietly.

Our subdomains are public addresses. We do not announce them. We do not point at them. If you find one and find it useful, that is the only marketing we are interested in.

Awesomeness is the only metric we know how to measure.

It is the feeling, on opening a thing, that someone cared more than the situation required. Everything else — uptime, retention, ARR, NPS — is a downstream confession of that one variable.
